The beauty of working in an art space is that whatever you put in it becomes charged. An art space amplifies the volume of what is “on display,” but really everything is still there, because all the systems are linked. In this meeting room that we’re in right now, the glass has no particular volume, but if you were to put the glass on the floor of the gallery, even though it’s still the same thing, it would then have a unique volume that would allow others to notice and think about it more deeply. So when I make a work, I’m not really separating something from the rest of the systems in the world, I’m just recontextualizing it so that it’s louder.

Baker Shields performing “up on a plane”. This was the last recording that night, had to turn on the red light as it had become dark. Thanks to the flashing neon sign for the ambiance. Sorry for covering the mike by accident halfway through.
-
Baker Shields, “you”. Burning sky & chanting gulls = great night of filming music.

Round two with Mack
-
Mack Shields came up for a recording session at Ground Zero Studios, he plays with Cats In Distress, among many others. More info and myspace to come.
-
Continuing on with the Ground Zero studio musicians posts, Zac Vandergugten came up and recorded one afternoon in early spring before taking off tree planting. Please disregard the deathBEFOREbreakfast tag at the end, that is a mistake.
